MAET Showcase
Welcome to my Master of Arts in Education Technology (MAET) highlight reel. The creations below are not an exhaustive list, but are elements that encapsulate three main themes of my learning: learning behind the scenes, in action, and life outside learning. Through the MAET program, I not only learned about learning in the classroom and the direct student impacts, but also historical theories and the other aspects of the education world that do not have direct student or classroom impacts. The three categories below break my 30-credit program into digestible segments and provide an overview of my educational technology education. For a more granular look at my learning, please visit my blog.
Learning Behind the Scenes
The artifacts below embody my education in teaching and learning behind the scenes. This encompasses my personal theories and moral guide to teaching and learning - what can not be physically seen in the classroom.
Theory of Learning
Theorists such as Vygotsky, Piaget, Throndyke, and Skinner have been theorizing why and how students learn for ages. In my personal Theory of Learning, I showcase my communicative abilities by laying out my agreements and disagreements with the most popular theories and combine aspects of them to finalize my personal theory and approach to learning and teaching.
21st Century Learning
In this lesson plan, I incorporate key themes of accessibility and privacy within a 21st century learning experience. This lesson plan was built upon a 2nd grade mathematics lesson that was taught during my 2022 assistant teaching placement. The lesson aims to teach students about coins while integrating both physical and digital manipulatives. This lesson highlights my adaption to change and drive to improve.
Assessing Assessment Data
In this blog post, I dive into best practices when it comes to analyzing assessment data. Based on course learnings and the works of Keown, Fossum, and Young, I critique standard assessment analysis practices and suggest student-first approaches to reading assessment data. My analytical and operations skills are illustrated within this blog post.
Designing Learning Spaces
In this blog post, I redesign my personal learning and working space. This creation was the result of research on optimal learning spaces dependent on age. While this creation was outside of my expertise, I took on the challenge of applying new knowledge to my personal life to drive optimal success in both my educational and professional life.
Online Teaching Manifesto
Similar to my Theory of Learning, this manifesto outlines my beliefs of teaching, specifically my opinions in relation to online teaching and learning. In this manifesto, I break my thoughts into three key statements and elaborate on the importance of each. This manifesto serves as a guide and moral compass in my EdTech career path, emphasizing my goal-oriented mindset.
Lessons in Mathematics
This professional development session is one of a collection of 5. In this session, I lead professionals through a technology-integrated and interactive lesson in geometry, facilitate exploration of geometry tools, and assist in a final lesson plan take-away. This snapshot of a semester-long project showcases my interest in adult learning theories and learning and development efforts.
Teacher Transition Phenomenon
In an analysis of wicked societal phenomenons, I researched and analyzed the teacher transition phenomenon - with interest in those who leave the classroom for careers in EdTech. In this project I conduct research, collect data, analyze that data, and create a call for action. This project embodies my passion for multi-faceted issues in the education world.
Teacher Transition Research
My research skills are highlighted within this annotated bibliography. During this project, my bank of knowledge on the teacher transition phenomenon was expanded, eventually leading to my work linked above. This research provided an informed and stable base on the phenomenon and allowed me to expand on already data-backed evidence.
Learning in Action
Life Outside Learning
The artifacts below showcase my education in teaching and learning in the physical classroom. They include lesson plans that are enacted with real students and have real learning outcomes.
The artifacts below embody my education in life outside the classroom. This covers the aspects of my education that did not have direct curriculum ties, but still held great importance in my program.
